Where functionality meets tropical class…

When we were approached by Belle Property to refurbish their office space, we were both excited and a little daunted to say the least. As a premier property agency in Cairns, they’ve seen their fair share of high end properties full of sophisticated designs and luxury furnishings, but we do love a challenge, so of course we said yes!

Redesigning an office space is very different to redesigning a home. Homes are a very personal space, where the occupants personality and individual needs reflect directly in the design choices. However, an office space needs to reflect the values of a business, be a seamless blend of design and functionality and walk the fine line of professional yet inviting.

The client also asked us to ‘keep the Cairns vibe’ throughout, so the concept was to keep the existing style and update it a little to suit current trends. We wanted it to be sophisticated and inviting.
When you open the door to Belle Property’s reception, you’re immediately drawn to the timber slat wall. This beautifully crafted spotted gum timber vertical slat wall is the perfect choice for a tropical, professional, warm and inviting space. The naturally different hues in the timber paired with the LED strip lighting really delivered the wow factor creating a beautiful ambiance at any time of day.

We used a hint of colour, opting for the sage armchair and added in some beautiful décor items such as statement vases with dehydrated flowers, taking advantage of the different textures to help give the space the warmth and inviting feel.

No room is complete without a little piece of nostalgia, so we gave a nod to our Cairns history by hanging a large painting completed by a local artist which depicts an old Queenslander home set amongst the cane fields, complete with the rolling green mountains in the background.

In the boardroom, we upgraded the wallpaper, opting for a tropical print in a more subtle hue than the original. The sheer curtains complimented the wallpaper and also allowed privacy without compromising on natural light. The low hung pendant lighting is not only extremely functional in this space, but also effortlessly creates a statement in design. This modern look allowed the room to have its office functionality, with an air of sophistication.

Whilst ultimately this room will be used for client and staff meetings, we didn’t want the room to feel unfinished. We added in small details such as the light grey rug and small statement vases, that help bring a warm and inviting feeling to the room, without taking away from the functionality and purpose of this room.
When changing the design of a room, you may immediately think of changing the big ticket items in that room such as couches, tables and beds; however you can change the overall feel of a room just by changing the smaller details.

Adding items like plants, vases, cushions and rugs can invoke an entirely different feel without requiring a hefty budget. If you like updating your interior style regularly, try opting for neutral furnishings, then styling the room through small furnishings and décor. This way you can keep up with the latest fashions and colours without it costing you the earth.
